ARTS

Each year an arts representative is elected to co-ordinate arts events in the JCR. The position of arts rep is a fledgling role at Regent’s, first created in 2009 with the aim of raising the profile of the arts within the college and on a broader scale and to encourage and promote the participation of Regent’s students in the arts.

An arts theme becomes the focus of each Hilary term and is the basis of an Arts Evening held in the following term. The 2010 evening is set to bring together an exhibition of our art and photography of live music, literary readings and screenings of students' Film Cuppers entries and for the first time, a ‘poetry slam’. This year’s theme will be ‘Behind the Curtain’ and the photography theme will be ‘the Spirit of Oxford’

Other significant Arts ventures at Regent's include the Advent Choir organised by our student Choirmaster, a Charity Pantomime (last year was Aladdin...Under the Sea!) and a Summer Play directed by our Drama Rep and performed in the Quadrangle, most recently productions of "Twelfth Night" and "The Importance of Being Earnest" have been staged.

Currently, Regent's is pioneering a university wide art’s project, ‘Lost Words’, the results of which we hope to exhibit in the summer.
