Coxing

The cox of a boat is the most important position by far. Not only are you the eyes of the boat, steering around other crews and navigating the river, but you are also completely in command. It is your job to keep everyone in time, and correct any mistakes they are making. Although it sounds complicated and like there is a lot you need to know, it’s easy to pick up the necessary skills on the job. At Regent’s, we’re happy for people to volunteer themselves for coxing, and like to give everyone a chance. Most of our coxes had never coxed before getting into an VIII and all would agree that this is the best way to learn. If you are interested in coxing for either Regent’s Park Men’s or Women’s VIII, please send an email to harriet.owens@regents.ox.ac.uk .
