Omar Asfar - 2nd Year History and Politics

I applied to Oxford to study History and Politics. After a year here, I would not think of applying for any other course.  Whilst difficult and challenging, it is a fascinating course that I highly recommend to others who have an interest in either parts of the course. However, it is not merely the course, but what Regent’s Park College and Oxford have to provide that has made this such a great experience.

At Regent’s Park College, the community atmosphere is almost unparalleled. Whether it is reclining and relaxing in our JCR, being involved in the Christmas Carol Service, or acting in either our college’s pantomime or summer plays, I have always enjoyed being involved in our college’s social life. Furthermore, Regent’s Park College has acted as a terrific spring-board for my involvement at the University level.

I have been heavily involved and have many friends in many of Oxford’s societies. Recently, I was the Chairman of the Consultative Committee at the Oxford Union, a position that allowed me to meet and converse with many prolific men and women, ranging from the President of Albania, the Ambassador of Israel and the Archbishop of Aleppo. I have also assisted the Returning Officer in the monitoring of the Oxford Union’s elections, one of the world’s oldest and famous debating societies. Likewise, I have been involved with the Current Affairs Society and the Shorthorn dining society.

I do not think I can adequately give my opinion on highly I value my course, my college and my university. The best that I can do is to encourage you to apply to Regent’s Park College, Oxford for what can only be described as a great and defining experience.
