FAQs

What is a PPH?

  • PPHs are educational bodies within the University of Oxford. Students at PPHs study exactly the same courses as other students in the University, are awarded the same degrees (the certificates do not even name the college you went to on them), and you have access to all the same resources, libraries, societies and sports clubs as other students in the University.
  • The technical differences are that PPHs all have a religious foundation. All colleges in the University began life as Christian institutions, and the PPHs are no exception. What differentiates the PPHs is that they retain ties to specific religious denominations: in Regent's' case, the Baptist church. This means that the Principal and several members of governing body are baptists, but in reality doesn't affect the student experience. The student body here is extremely diverse, and the 'ethos' of the college is secular. You don't have to be a Christian to go here (most students aren't), and there aren't monks wandering around or anything like that...

How small is Regent's?

  • Regent's accepts around 44 undergraduates each year, having recently expanded in size. This means were not much smaller than other small colleges (Corpus takes around 60 undergrads each year). We also have around 100 graduates, making our graduate intake larger than, for example, Mansfield.

Do I have to be Christian to study at Regent's?

  • Absolutely not. Most of our undergrads are not religious Christians, and we have a broad and diverse student body with people of different faiths. The student body is much like any other college in Oxford.

Can I use the Bodleian Library / attend university lectures /join the Oxford Union?

    • Yes! Regent's members are full members of the university, and have full use of university facilities just like somebody studying the same degree at any other college in Oxford.

Can I play sport at Regent's?

    • Yes. We have a rowing club, football teams for men and women and a netball team. If you want to do a sport we do not offer you can play it for another college. Also, Regent's members enjoy full use of University sports facilities like at any other college.
