Men's Football

If you are as mad about football as I am or merely fancy a kick-about for fitness or fun, Regents provides you with the opportunity to play competitive football in the highest possible division. Last season, we enjoyed a steady campaign and finished mid-table having won four, drawn three and lost four.

Regent’s football is open to players of all abilities and, over the course of the season, different people get involved to varying extents. Not only are undergraduates involved but grad students, visiting foreign students and also ministerial students help out the team on a regular basis.

Over the duration of the first two terms, we play 11 games in the league plus a number of cup games, depending on how far we progress in the competition. Furthermore, in the summer, there is an indoor 5-a-side tournament to ensure that football does not disappear off the map.

Finally, there is a social event at the end of the year which typically will involve curry, beer and an activity to be decided. This usually follows the Old Boys game where some legends of the game return to display their footballing skills. This past season, we went to the greyhound track and watched a few races, which provided some good entertainment. At the dinner which follows the event, awards and prizes are given out for player of the season, top scorer, and even best attempted own goal (providing a genuine one is not scored)!
