Peer supporters are members of the JCR who have been trained in listening skills by the Oxford University Counselling Service. You can give them a call, or see them at tea. You can come and talk to peer supporters about anything that is bothering you, nothing is too small or insignificant, if something is big enough to be bothering you then it is important enough to share. Similarly, if you have bigger problems, the peer supporters can be your first port of call, and can advise you on where to go for more comprehensive help. Anything you say will be treated in confidence, and with the utmost respect.
Around the College you will find posters displaying the names and pictures of the current peer support team. Peer supporters must train for 30 hours; by JCR constitution the welfare officers are mandated to train if they have not already. If you feel you would be a good peer supporter, please let one of the team know. Training this year will be in Trinity Term.
More information regarding the Peer Support programme, and the nature of training involved can be seen at the Oxford University peer supporters page - http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/shw/peers.shtml.
